Structure, Properties, Manufacturing and Applications of Aerogels
Aerogel refers to a unique class of low-density, open-cell materials. Due to their unique structure, they have interesting properties which make them useful in a variety of applications. This document describes aerogel structure, various forms of aerogels, manufacturing of aerogels, and important properties including their thermal conductivity, mechanical strength, as well as their acoustic and optical properties. It also provides some fabrication techniques that are used for aerogel insulation products and describes their use as insulation in different end-applications. Various applications and uses of aerogels are described.
